Oh feck.

I think I don't really like frozen chicken fingers. You know, the ones they serve at applebee's and any number of other chain restaurants, that come breaded already? They definitely taste alot different than ones from Chic-fila or homemade ones. Maybe the love is missing, the pride in handcrafting something delicious. Not sure.

To celebrate our freedom, I was very patriotic this weekend. I sat on my ass and read a book all weekend. I was sore from so much sitting in one place, so I would rotate from the armchair to the couch to the other armchair, just for variety :). I am currently enjoying yet another embarrassing genre of fiction - christian romance. I really wish I didn't love it, but Francine Rivers is an outstanding writer. I am really digging on her books right now.

But what great american holiday is complete without gorging one's self on media? I also saw Batman Begins, War of the worlds, rented Anchorman and Team America: World Police, and caught The Whole Nine Yards, Tommy Boy, A Few Good Men, the tail end of a disney movie about a dog, and some Fox News this weekend. I may have given up my cable and given away my tv, but that doesn't mean that I don't enjoy consuming mindless entertainment every once and awhile. Mmmm.

Oh blog, I am resurrecting you! You will be home to my random musings, and also help me catalog my daily activities so that I can reminisce a year from now on what I was up to "back then"...

Flash fiction: "Jigsaw Puzzle"

It was interesting, because the puzzle witnessed all the indiscretion. Hanging benignly on the wainscoted wall, facing west, the wide window with the musty vertical blinds always drawn. The puzzle, a triumphant rendition of the U.S.S. Constitution engaged in pitched naval warfare, the very waves praising her courage, loyalty, fortitude. My mom’s loyalty, fortitude. Her patience with the 5000 piece puzzle. Her loyalty to the concept of finishing it, framing it, giving it to her husband to hang in his office, his new office. She worked on it throughout our whole vacation - instead of going to the beach or the pool, she hunched over the dining room table in our timeshare and pieced the ship together.

I’m positive she didn’t know what the puzzle would see. What the walls in his new office were already party to. Why he chose a spot for it on the wall that was not in his direct line-of-sight from his desk.
