Paper done.
In unrelated news, the UGA@Oxford program has broken yet another promise. There is a history of this: Firstly, we were promised membership to the Student union in all of the program literature and at the orientation. Upon arrival, we were told that the program could no longer afford it. We lobbyed, drew up a petition, diverted funds from weekly group dinners and had our membership anyways. Then house rules, such as "No overnight visitors, ever", which were sprung on us when we arrived instead of before, were disputed and there was quite a bit of trouble over them. The program then changed the rules about alcohol at the house, which doesn't bother me because I don't really drink very often, but still--it's the principle of the thing. You don't change rules after the participants have already signed the contract. What about upholding their end? Now, the latest saga is that of "the group excursion." In the program literature we were informed that our fees would cover food/lodging/student union membership/Bodleian library membership/a group excursion. A few days ago we were told that there was not enough money to cover the trip. Now, if the program is in the red, should this be my problem, since I paid my fees in full? Their bad management of money is not my fault. I was looking forward to an all-expenses-paid outing with my housemates.
Update:
We just received an email from the program director, stating that the group excursion would be back on despite the fact that they would have to divert money from elsewhere. The way they put it, "We're santa claus giving you a treat because you are so whiny" instead of "We messed up and are making it right because we broke a promise" annoys me. But the end is the same. Now, I wonder where we will go?
