Down at the New Amsterdam...
Today I opened up my email to find one from one of my best friends, called "the big happy email". Inside was a list of "20 things to like about Rebecca". She knew I'd been having a hard time, and I don't think I've ever gotten a more thoughtful gift than that email. It cheered me up instantly, and made my laugh really hard, cuz some of them are really funny... (thanks Nat, you rock more hardcore than anyone I know)
Me and Smeg went to see Gomez last night, just up the road at the student union, and it was absolutely the most fantastic show I've ever been to. Even the opening band rocked, they were called Archive, and they were really, really heavy and loud, and all of them (and there were 8 of them) dressed in black suits with black shirts, so they were pretty snazzy. Their first song was really cool, it started out with just guitar and the guy singing, but then it got louder and louder with this electronicky beat, and the lead singer put a guitar on, so there were two (and a bass), and they had two drummers and two keyboardists, and I think an eighth guy somewhere. It was the loudest thing I've ever experienced. My trousers were actually shaking from the bass (which was an odd feeling) but the noise wasn't annoying at all, it was the kind that just envelopes you and you don't have room to do anything except enjoy it. They rocked. But Gomez rocked even harder. Since I've been listening to them for months now, I knew almost all the songs they played, and I love singing along. They encouraged us to, actually, asking "Did you bring your singing voices tonight?" and joking about how, if we weren't dancing, we would be physically removed from the show :). They were seriously awesome. Great stage presence, no somber "we're badass" attitude, and awesome music. I enjoyed every minute of it. I'm so glad I went.
I also went shopping yesterday and bought some neat stuff... christmas presents for my parents, and a few "christmas" presents for myself....
